Clinical Director & Co-founder

Dr Anna Cohen

Anna is the Co-Founder and Clinical Director of Heads & Tails and brings over 25 years of experience working with children, young people, and families across government and non-government sectors. A highly skilled clinician, with a passion for the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of psychiatric, emotional, and behavioural challenges in children and families, Anna has a particular focus on supporting parents in implementing effective parenting strategies.

Anna has a deep passion for working with children and young people who have struggled to engage in traditional therapy, especially those who are treatment-resistant. She integrates animals into clinical practice, recognizing their unique ability to foster connection, emotional regulation, and healing.

Beyond her clinical work, Anna is a dedicated writer on parenting, committed to equipping parents with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to navigate the challenges of raising children. She is driven by a strong belief in helping families overcome difficulties so that children and young people can reconnect with everyday experiences of childhood—play, learning, relationships, and a sense of belonging.

Counsellor & Co-founder

Emma Caldwell

As the Co-Founder and Team Manager of Heads & Tails, Emma is a highly experienced and compassionate counsellor and Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy practitioner, dedicated to supporting individuals through life’s challenges. Since co-founding Heads & Tails in 2015, she has spent the past decade providing transformative mental health support to people of all ages. With over 25 years of experience working alongside both people and horses, Emma seamlessly integrates her love of animals and nature with her commitment to fostering confidence, resilience, and emotional well-being in her clients.

Emma takes a gentle, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approach to counselling, ensuring each session is tailored to the unique needs of the individual. She creates a safe, supportive, and validating space where clients can explore their experiences with self-compassion and kindness. Passionate about the benefits of equine-assisted and nature-based therapy, she incorporates somatic techniques and interventions to help clients regulate their nervous systems and build a strong emotional foundation.

With a special interest in helping parents strengthen their relationships with their children, Emma supports parents in becoming positive role models who are attuned to their children’s needs while maintaining healthy boundaries and family expectations. As a mother of three teenagers herself, she combines professional expertise with lived experience, providing relatable and practical guidance to parents navigating the complexities of family life.

A lifelong learner, Emma is committed to deepening her skills to better support her clients. She holds a Diploma of Counselling and is set to complete a Bachelor of Counselling in July 2025. She has also trained with The Equine Psychotherapy Institute and EAGALA, enhancing her expertise in equine-assisted practice. With over 20 years of experience as an equestrian coach, she brings a deep understanding of the human-horse connection to her work. Emma is registered with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), the Australian Counselling Association (ACA), and is listed on the Australian Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

As both a leader and practitioner, Emma’s unique blend of professional knowledge, personal insight, and compassionate care makes her an invaluable support for individuals and families seeking healing, growth, and emotional well-being.

Clinical Psychologist

Kat Cox

Kat is a dedicated Clinical Psychologist with a deep passion for using evidence-based psychological interventions, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), to support young people and their families. Her goal is to help them develop the skills, resilience, and confidence needed to navigate life’s challenges and achieve personal growth.

Kat works with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, behavioural issues, social skills difficulties, and school refusal. She has a particular focus on supporting children and young people who are Neurodiverse or have experienced Childhood Trauma. Kat’s approach is strength-based and neuro-affirming, empowering clients to better understand how their brain works and using this knowledge to support them in overcoming challenges in various settings—whether at home, school, or in social environments.

With a Bachelor of Education (Primary), Kat is deeply committed to promoting inclusive learning environments and practices. She works collaboratively with teachers, schools, and other health professionals (such as Occupational Therapists and Speech Therapists), as well as parents, to ensure that every child receives the support they need to thrive. Through her compassionate and holistic approach, Kat strives to make a meaningful, positive impact on the lives of those she works with.

Clinical Psychologist Registrar

Margot Fox

Margot is a Clinical Psychology Registrar with a deep passion for using evidence-based psychological interventions to support young people and their families. She is dedicated to helping children develop essential skills, build resilience, and navigate the challenges they encounter as they grow. With a background in Neuroscience, Margot is particularly interested in exploring the neurological development of children. She works closely with both the child and their parents to ensure that interventions are tailored to the child’s unique neurodevelopmental stage, fostering understanding of their development and its impact on future progress.

Margot firmly believes in meeting both clients and parents where they are in their journey, creating interventions that are not only effective but also achievable for the child and their family. She employs a flexible approach, drawing on multiple modalities—including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and strength-based care—ensuring that the therapy provided is responsive to the child’s specific needs and goals.

Clinical Psychologist Registrar

Rebecca Liu

Rebecca is passionate about fostering a warm, secure, and nurturing environment where children, adolescents, and their families can form meaningful connections and develop essential life skills. She takes a collaborative approach, honoring each client’s choices, recognising their potential, and offering compassionate support to help them overcome challenges. With a Master of Clinical Psychology (awarded with Distinction), Rebecca has extensive experience working with culturally diverse communities in various settings.

She has a particular passion in supporting neurodiverse children, and working with their families to embrace their strengths, and problem solve challenges. Rebecca has led autism-friendly parenting programs, equipping families with strategies to manage challenging behaviors, enhance social skills, and promote emotional regulation. Her therapeutic approach integrates evidence-based modalities, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), attachment-based interventions, and mindfulness techniques. Dedicated to personalised care, she tailors her interventions to meet the unique needs of each child and family, empowering them to navigate challenges, build resilience, and cultivate emotional well-being.

Mental Health Social Worker

Michelle Mallam

Michelle is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with a deep passion for supporting children and young people to feel seen, heard, and empowered. She is committed to helping them build the confidence, resilience, and emotional skills needed to navigate life’s challenges in an ever-changing world.

Michelle understands the complexities of raising children in a fast-paced, technology-driven society and is dedicated to creating a safe and supportive space where young people can express themselves and develop essential life skills. She takes a compassionate and holistic approach, incorporating evidence-based practices to support each individual’s unique journey.

Michelle is a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers and is trained in Evidence-Based Practice. She has also completed training as an Equine-Assisted Psychotherapist and is currently furthering her expertise by undertaking a Graduate Diploma in Counselling.

As a valued member of the Heads & Tails team for over five years, Michelle is continually expanding her skills and knowledge to provide the best possible care for her clients. Outside of her professional work, she is a devoted mother to two tween boys and a passionate animal lover, with a special place in her heart for horses.

Counsellor

Alex Dunwoodie

Alex is a skilled Psychotherapist with a Master’s in Psychotherapy, a Graduate Diploma in Counselling, and a Bachelor of Social Science. She also holds specialised qualifications in Applied Polyvagal Theory, Complex Trauma, Neuro-Affirming Practices, and Integrated Listening Systems. Alex integrates a variety of therapeutic modalities in her work, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotional Focusing, and somatic awareness techniques, to guide her clients towards emotional regulation and healing.

With a holistic, person-centred approach, Alex creates a gentle and compassionate therapeutic space that is responsive to each client’s unique needs. Her diverse background—as an art teacher, costume maker, birth attendant, and parent—enriches her work with children, families, and individuals.

Currently, Alex works at Heads & Tails, where she supports families and individuals with nervous system disorders, drawing from her belief in strength-based practices that foster resilience, hope, and courage. She is particularly passionate about the profound impact that increasing awareness of the relationship between our nervous system and our environment can have on overall well-being and emotional health.

Gus Garcia-Arismendi

Gus Garcia-Arismendi is a dedicated and culturally sensitive Clinical Psychologist with a deep passion for helping individuals cultivate self-awareness as a catalyst for meaningful change. His approach is grounded in empathy, psychological safety, and evidence-based practices, fostering both personal and professional growth.

With over 20 years of experience in organisational change, cultural transformation, leadership development, talent management, and diversity, equity & inclusion, Gus brings a unique perspective to his clinical work. His expertise spans a broad range of organisations—from entrepreneurial ventures to large, complex enterprises like McKinsey & Company, Westpac, and Ipsos—giving him a deep understanding of human behaviour in high-performance environments and the crucial role of psychological well-being in sustainable success.
Beyond his corporate expertise, Gus has a lifelong connection with horses and nature. Having lived in diverse cultural settings—including Costa Rica, India, Mexico, Poland, the United States, and Venezuela—he appreciates the profound impact of environment and lived experience on personal transformation.

Isabel Fraser

Isabel is a dedicated Clinical Psychologist with a passion for providing evidence-based psychological interventions to support children, young people, and their families. She takes a kind, collaborative, and holistic approach to promoting positive change, helping her clients navigate emotional and behavioural challenges with confidence and resilience.

Isabel holds a Master of Clinical Psychology (with Distinction) and has experience working with culturally diverse child, adolescent, and adult populations. With a background in research, she has a special interest in mood disorders and perinatal mental health.
